Welcome to the Society for Research in Autism Spectrum Conditions (WGAS)

We hope that you find our website both informative and resourceful and we invite you to explore all of the work of our non-profit organization.

The WGAS is devoted to supporting basic and applied autism research primarily in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Among other things, the WGAS meets this goal through producing scientific publications, facilitating events such as the Scientific Meeting for Autism Spectrum Conditions (WTAS), promoting networking among colleagues active within the autism field, and the formation of professional groups. We also provide training and continuing education for researchers, support for junior scientists, and sponsorship of awards for outstanding research contributions. You can find more information on these topics, on different types of memberships, and on possible ways of financially supporting our organization on this website.

On behalf of the WGAS board of directors, yours sincerely,

Michele Noterdaeme (president) & Isabel Dziobek (vice-president)

Information about WTAS 2020

Dear Sir or Madam,

You had registered to participate in the Scientific Meeting Autism Spectrum (WTAS) 2020? As you already know, the conference could not take place due to the Corona Pandemic. We were very sorry that we could not host the WTAS for you, but we were forced to make this decision due to the existing health risk and legal requirements. After intensive considerations in the context of the development of the pandemic, we have now decided not to offer the conference at a later date this year.

As a non-profit association, WGAS has suffered very heavy financial losses due to the short-term cancellation of the conference. A large part of the expenses must be paid in advance of the conference and will only be generated when the conference is held. The situation is indeed so dramatic that we cannot say at this point in time whether we can continue the work of the association. This would mean that the WGAS and all related events, conferences, sponsorships and initiatives would have to be discontinued at the end of the year.

We are currently trying to obtain financial support from the federal government. However, the financial framework of potential support is not very high and since the current emergency situation affects many non-profit associations, it is uncertain whether WGAS will receive it.

We therefore ask for your support!

If you appreciate our work in the interest of autism research in Germany, Austria and Switzerland over the last 13 years and would like to see a continuation including the orientation of the WTAS, the awarding of prizes for young researchers, the possibility of networking on different levels, then you now have the opportunity to help.

Of course we will refund the full conference fee for the cancelled WTAS 2020 on your request, but if you want to support the association and contribute to its survival, there are the following further possibilities:

1: You waive the reimbursement – completely or in parts – of your conference fee. This contribution will be donated to WGAS and will be used to maintain the association’s work. You are free to decide on the amount of the contribution. You will of course receive a donation receipt for each donation made.

2: You will receive a voucher from us for participation in the next WTAS, which will take place as a face-to-face event, and you will not have to pay any participation fee for this conference.

Please let us know your decision as soon as possible. Please contact sandra.naumann@wgas-autismus.org or info@ezb-bonn.de. We will refund all conference fees until 31.08.2020 according to the mentioned modalities. If we do not hear from you by this date, we will assume that you wish to waive your conference fee. It is also not possible to issue a voucher for the next WTAS after this date.

Despite the uncertain future of WGAS, we on the board have already discussed the potential future of WTAS. If – with your support – we can secure the continuation of the work, we plan to make WTAS 2021 exclusively digital in spring. We are already working on organizing an attractive program with well-known and innovative formats for you. However, as this will be our first online format and in order to tailor it as closely as possible to your wishes, we would like to ask you to take part in a short survey, which you can access via the following link:

We look forward to your feedback and thank you very much for your contribution.

Support WGAS and stay healthy!

With best wishes on behalf of the entire WGAS Board
